Friends of ANCHOR £2m target for new cancer centre

2019 marks an exciting year for Balmoral’s in-house charity, Friends of ANCHOR, with the launch of the organisation’s ANCHORED Together appeal.

The first quarter of 2019 has been a busy one for the charity as it launches its latest fundraising campaign and gears up for a packed year of events including the annual ANCHOR Wipeout and biennial Masked Ball.

In 2021, a new NHS Grampian cancer and haematology centre will open in Aberdeen. The £32m ANCHOR Centre will be a purpose-built, state-of-the-art facility, housing specialist care for oncology and haematology day and out patients, including those living in the Grampian region and the islands of Orkney and Shetland.

Friends of ANCHOR launched its ANCHORED Together appeal to mark its commitment to raise £2m for the Centre – an ambitious sum for a local charity that relies entirely on fundraising and donations.

Whilst the Scottish Government is investing £32m for the new build, Friends of ANCHOR’s additional £2m will make the new Centre, the first of its kind in Scotland, a reality. To raise a sum of this magnitude the charity has pledged that all funds gathered through its annual fundraising events will go towards the ANCHORED Together appeal.
