New year, new faces, new events at Friends of ANCHOR

Balmoral’s in-house charity, Friends of ANCHOR, exists to serve all those affected by a cancer diagnosis or blood-related disorder across the NHS Grampian region. The charity raises funds to supplement what the NHS provides to bring the very best treatment, care and support for North-east Scotland patients.

Following the success of the charity’s 20th anniversary year in 2017, 2018 sees another busy time for the team at Friends of ANCHOR.

The year ahead boasts a full calendar of fundraising events including a sell-out Courage on the Catwalk and Brave weekend in May. Now in its 17th year, the charity’s Gala Golf Event in June is set to be a great success, while ANCHOR Wipeout invites teams to battle it out in August.

This year also marks the launch of the ANCHOR Wipeout Corporate Challenge Cup. The corporate event will welcome groups of 6-10 people to battle it out during 12 dynamic sporting challenges making it an ideal team-building opportunity. There will be full hospitality throughout the day including a BBQ lunch, drinks reception and podium presentation for the winning groups. Newly appointed within the fundraising team is Kirsten Will, who will oversee corporate relationships as part of her development manager role. Erica Banks also joins the team as PR & fundraising executive after over five years of working in the field of communications. They work within the fundraising office based at Balmoral Group’s headquarters as the company fully covers the running and administration costs for the charity so every penny donated goes direct to the ANCHOR Unit.

The clinics and wards of the Aberdeen and North-east Centre for Haematology, Oncology and Radiotherapy (ANCHOR) Unit operate within Aberdeen Royal Infirmary to treat patients with all forms of cancer, leukaemia and benign blood disorders. Friends of ANCHOR was set up to directly support cancer and haematology patients by committing long-term funding to medical equipment, patient wellbeing and leading cancer research.
