Safe, effective, tough: Balmoral’s DBM installation tool won’t let you down

Monday, 11 March 2019 09:54

Here at Balmoral Offshore Engineering, we are renowned for our innovative approach to subsea challenges and have a proven track record of adding value while reducing costs for our clients.

With close to 40 years’ experience in the oilfield we have developed materials and provided engineered SURF solutions to practically every deepwater project around the world.

No room for compromise

We are on a continuous mission to improve safety and performance while eliminating unnecessary costs. Nowhere is this more apparent than when studying our patented clamping device and distributed buoyancy module (DBM) installation tool.

Designed by our in-house Innovation Team, the brief for the tool was to ‘keep it simple’. Engineering manager, Craig Sharp, explains: “We know that our products are installed in the roughest, toughest conditions around the world so there’s no room for compromise.

“We wanted to be sure our tool was robust enough to handle these conditions but simple enough to be used by most people. Our clients require solutions that are safe, effective, easy to use and, most importantly, will never let them down.

“I’m confident we have achieved that, and our clients tell us our tool is the ‘smart choice’.”

Early engagement means big savings

Our technical, engineering, procurement and manufacturing teams are highly motivated and supported by senior personnel with decades of experience. With 40,000+ DBMs installed around the world we know that early engagement is key to success as well as driving costs down on a ‘through-life’ basis.

Such collaboration really does pay off and we receive many testimonials, the following being a great example: “We were extremely happy with the reactivity of the projects and engineering team when they advised of a change in design that would (beneficially) affect the originally quoted scope.”
